Privacy policy
This policy covers the Billzzz app for Android and iPhone, published by sharpsan ("we"). It says what the app keeps, what leaves your phone, who receives it, and how to delete it.
The short version
- What you enter in Billzzz stays on your phone. We don't run a server, and we never see your bills.
- There is no account and no advertising. We don't sell or share your data.
- Three companies are involved, and only as described below: Google, if you back up to Google Drive, or buy Pro or rate the app on Android; Apple, if you buy Pro or rate the app on an iPhone; and Sentry, for crash reports and basic analytics.
What stays on your phone
Everything you put into Billzzz: your bills and their names, amounts, dates and notes; categories, labels and payment-method names; payment and price history; your income, its paydays and what each came to; your budget; and your settings. It is kept in the app's private storage on your phone.
Some of it is shown outside the app, on your phone only: reminder notifications show a bill's name, amount, due date and payment method, or an income's name and usual pay, and the home-screen widget shows names, dates and amounts, and what is left of your pay.
On Android, Billzzz opts out of the automatic backup to your Google account. Your data only leaves the phone in the backups you choose to make, described next. Android's phone-to-phone transfer, when you set up a new phone from your old one, can still bring it across.
On an iPhone, your phone's own backup, to iCloud or to a computer, includes Billzzz's data as it does most apps'. That backup is Apple's, kept with your Apple Account, and we can't see it.
Backups
To a file. A backup (JSON) or spreadsheet export (Excel) is saved where you choose, or handed to the app you share it with. Billzzz doesn't send it anywhere else.
To Google Drive, if you connect it. You sign in with your Google account, and Billzzz asks for access only to its own hidden folder in your Drive: it cannot see or change anything else there. Google tells the app your name and email address, which it shows so you know which account is connected, and sends nowhere else.
Each Drive backup is a full copy of your Billzzz data, stored in your Google account. The app keeps your 7 newest backups and the 3 largest older ones, and deletes the rest. Disconnecting signs the app out of your account but leaves your backups in Drive; Deleting your data says how to remove them.
Buying Pro
Pro is bought through your phone's store: Google Play on Android, the App Store on an iPhone. The store takes the payment under its own privacy policy, and we never see your card or payment details. To check whether you have bought Pro, Billzzz asks the store on your phone each time it starts, and the store answers from your Google account or Apple Account. The app doesn't send anything about your purchase to us or to anyone else.
As the seller, we see sales in the stores' reports for developers. Google Play shows each order, with details such as the order number, date and price; the App Store reports sales only in totals.
Rating the app
Once you've used Billzzz for a couple of weeks, it may ask your phone's store, Google Play or the App Store, to show its rating card just after you add a bill or mark one paid, and Settings has a link to its page in the store. A rating or review goes from you to the store, under that company's privacy policy, and appears there like any other. Billzzz never learns whether you left one or what it said.
Crash reports and analytics
When the app crashes, freezes or hits an error, it sends a report to Sentry so we can fix it. A report says what went wrong and where in the app's code, and includes the app version, your phone's model and its Android or iOS version, and a random ID for your install of the app. The app also tells Sentry when you open and leave it, so we can see how often it's used and how often it crashes. That is all the analytics the app has.
Reports don't include your name, email address, Google account or screenshots, and Sentry is set not to store the IP address a report comes from. If saving something fails, the app removes the values it was saving from the error before the report is sent. We use reports only to fix the app.
Notifications
Reminders, and the payday questions for pay that varies, are scheduled on your phone and come from your phone. Billzzz doesn't use a push notification service.
Permissions
On an iPhone, Billzzz asks only to send notifications, for reminders, when you turn them on. On Android it holds these:
- Internet and network state: for Google Drive backup and crash reports.
- Notifications: for reminders and payday questions. Android asks you first, when you turn reminders on.
- Run at startup: to put your reminders back after your phone restarts.
- Vibrate: for reminder notifications.
- Google Play billing: to buy Pro, and to ask Google Play whether you have.
Deleting your data
What you enter in Billzzz stays on your phone, and in your own Google Drive if you back up there, so you can delete it yourself. We don't hold anything linked to you.
- On your phone: delete any bill, payment, income, payday or payment method in the app. Uninstalling Billzzz removes everything it stored on your phone.
- Google Drive backups: in Google Drive on the web, open Settings, then Manage apps, find Billzzz, and choose Delete hidden app data. To take back the app's access to your Drive, remove it at myaccount.google.com/connections.
- Your Pro purchase is an order with Google Play or the App Store, kept with your Google account or Apple Account under that company's privacy policy, which is what lets you restore Pro on a new phone.
- Crash reports and analytics aren't linked to you, so we can't pick yours out. Sentry deletes them automatically within 90 days.
Children
Billzzz is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
